Romans Road to Salvation

The Romans Road is a short Bible study in the essentials of understanding how to be saved, according to the Christian Gospel. Understanding this will open your eyes to your need for God, for Christ the Savior, and for His life-giving Spirit.

First: we must understand our natural rebellion, in relationship to the Creator:

Romans 3:23, “For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God.” We have all sinned. The Bible makes this point repeatedly, in both the Old and New Testaments. Anyone who says otherwise is rebelling against the Word of God and is therefore offending God which is a sin. We have all done things that are displeasing to God. There is no one who is innocent – even children begin practicing what is rebellious before they can speak. Romans 3:10-18 gives a detailed picture of what sin looks like in our lives, from God’s perspective. It says things like “All have turned away…” and
…their tongues practice deceit.” and “Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness.” and worst of all  “…There is no fear of God before their eyes”.

Second: We learn about consequences.

Romans 6:23, teaches us that “…the wages of sin is death. But the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus.” Our race has both collectively and individually rebelled against our Creator, who is Holy, Righteous and Just. He does not want to condemn us, but we have a debt before God as a rebel race and as those who naturally choose sin and evil. The punishment that we have earned for sin is death. Not just physical death, but eternal death!

Third: We discover God’s remedy and the great hope and confidence it brings.

Romans 5:8 declares, “ But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. ” Jesus Christ died for us to pay the debt of our sins. Since Jesus never sinned, His death was unlawful by the terms of the first rule (above). Since Christ is the son of God, an eternal being, His death is able to cover all sins of all mankind. And since Jesus rose from death to eternal life, His resurrection proves that God accepted Jesus’ death as the payment for our sins.

Fourth: We discover the process that God rewards to begin the journey with Jesus.

Romans 10:9, says “That if you confess with your mouth Jesus as Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.” God made our access to salvation a free gift – so that we cannot boast of earning it. Because of Jesus’ death on our behalf, believing Him and trusting His death as the payment for our sins – is sufficient to be saved! Romans 10:13 says it again, “ For ‘whoever calls on the name of the Lord shall be saved.’.” This shows us that Jesus died to pay the penalty for our sins and rescue us from eternal death. Salvation, the forgiveness of sins, is available to anyone who will trust in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior. God made it accessible to all with this one condition: we must believe and trust Him.

Fifth: We discover the wonderful promise God gives to those who turn to Jesus.

Romans 5:1 has this wonderful message: “Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ.” Through Jesus Christ we can have a relationship of peace with God. Romans 8:1 says, “Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” God is telling us that because of Jesus’ death on our behalf, and His resurrection from the dead, we will never be condemned for our sins – if we trust Him and give our lives to Him.

Sixth: We find the power for living and breaking every chain of bondage.

We have this precious promise of God from Romans 8:38-39: “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

If you are hungry for righteousness, thirsty for the Creator to fill your life the way He intended for you, this prayer will get you started on a relationship with Him. Are you ready to begin the first step with Jesus? Here is a prayer that will help you start the journey: The words themselves don’t save you, but a heart open to God will please God and begin the process. “God, I know that I have sinned against you. I know that my sin and rebellious ways offend you. I realize that your Word says I am deserving of punishment. Thank you God that Jesus Christ took the punishment that I deserve, so that through faith in Him I could be forgiven. With your help, I place my trust in You for salvation. I give my life to you, in Jesus’s name. Thank You for Your wonderful grace and forgiveness – thank you for the promised gift of eternal life!”
