Every year as Christmas nears, someone asks or challenges why the church quotes Isaiah 7:14 and claims this refers to Jesus. They will usually say “no one calls Jesus Immanuel” or something of that nature. Others will ask why isn’t the name “Immanuel” used more often to refer to Jesus? But this is based in basic biblical ignorance (which is where we all start).Every time we declare that Jesus is God incarnate, we are declaring Him to be “Immanuel”.

The Christian church has lived, thrived, and been martyred for this witness, for 2,000 years. Jesus bar Joseph of Nazareth, whom we call Jesus Christ, was the Everlasting God in Human flesh. God with us. Immanuel.
