The fact that first-century Christians did something does not establish it as a pattern for all generations to follow, unless there is also a clear command to do so. The early church devoted itself to:
1. They devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching
2. They practiced radical generosity
3. They gathered regularly for teaching, fellowship, confession, breaking of bread (Eucharist), and prayer
4. They prayed constantly in and out of church
5. They expected the miraculous
6. They endured persecution with joy
7. They elevated spiritual unity over social status
Obey your leaders and submit to them, for they are keeping watch over your souls, as those who will have to give an account. Let them do this with joy and not with groaning, for that would be of no advantage to you. Hebrews 13:17
